Draft Day - Kevin Costner

Posted: Updated:
Kevin Costner is back on the big screen doing what he loves most. Making a movie about sports. Deco's Shireen Sandoval knows her balls and has the deets on "Draft Day."

If anyone could add charm to a sports movie, it's actor Kevin Costner. He swam his way into "Water World," used a bow an arrow to help the poor in "Robin Hood" and saved Whitney Houston from a stalker in "Body Guard." Oh we're talking about sport, sports? What's he done recently?

If you like football, the new movie "Draft day" starring Kevin Costner, is running its way into a theater near you. The questions is does director Ivan Reitman make a winning movie?

Shireen: "You are known for some classic sports movies that everyone knows, loves and talks about. Do you think "Draft Day has the potential to be a classic?"

Kevin Costner: "Yeah, I think it takes its place really beautifully along with those movies. I could tell when I saw it written and finally made and done, I thought, wow, Ivan really did it. It had a chance going in. It's really fun."

Shireen: "Does that give you any extra pressure knowing you've made movies like "Tin Cup"?

Kevin Costner: "Those movies no one expected those to do well. They were small budget movies. This was a small budget movie but it's a big time story. It's very American."

Kevin plays the general manager of the Cleveland Browns. The story is about what he does to try and get the number one NFL draft pick for his team.

Shireen: "How involved was the NFL in making the movie?"

Kevin Costner: "They were very involved in green lighting it saying we could use their logo, that we could use their uniform and their players. That was important, I would not have done it if we had not."

Even though it's a movie about football it's way more than that. It's about the politics and suspense of the sport and all that crazy stuff in-between we call life.

Shireen: "Now, I wouldn't really describe this movie to my viewers in Miami as a chick flick, but I did find it intriguing, and I'm not a big sports person."

Kevin Costner: "Yeah."

Shireen: "What will women like about this movie?"

Kevin Costner: "I think the best movies are about men and women and "Draft Day" really is."

Actress Jennifer Garner plays Kevin's girlfriend. She's also the teams salary expert. She serves up one hot dose of estrogen.

Kevin Costner: "My girlfriend wants to have this important conversation on the most important day, and I suggest that we have it maybe tomorrow and she says in typical chick fashion, 'No way, we're having it today,' so she disrupts my whole day and you're already laughing."

What's football without a good female on the sidelines busting? You know. No matter how you pass it this is a pretty good movie for sports fans. And for Kevin, he's doing what he loves, making inspirational films.

Shireen: "Best sports movie of all time for you?"

Kevin Costner: "I don't know, I have to take mine out of it, cuz that's not fair. I thought hoosiers was pretty good."

Don't miss my chat tomorrow with "Draft Day" star Jennifer Garner. Find out if she really loves football and why being in a marching band helped her have major team spirit. Draft Day" opens Friday.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.

Kindness and charm, unlike the people that live in Sin City, and i'm not talking about Vegas either. Things have changed in the town of Sin as in the motion picture while others have stayed the same. The cast of the movie told Deco what's new in part two.?
