Spring has sprung so having an outdoor space to entertain is essential. Makeover maestro Martin Amado shows us how to get that patio into shape.

WSVN — Martin Amado: “On today’s Room for Improvement we are getting this outdoor terrace ready for entertaining this Spring.”

Martin Amado: “I love the pavers in this space, but the chain link fence needs a little dressing up. So, I’m going to do that by using these 4 by 4 posts.”

Martin Amado: “So, this post is not only going to be decorative but also functional because, at the very top, I’m installing a post cap like this that’s also a solar light.”

Martin Amado: “I’m easily securing the post to the fence pole with this bracket from behind.”

Martin Amado: “So, when you have a long, narrow terrace like this one, it’s nice to divide it up in to two areas. This side over here is going to be for dining and the other side for a small seating arrangement.”

Martin Amado: “Pillows in outdoor fabric help to give the space a lot of color.”

Martin Amado: “To get more bang for your buck, I took the two armchairs that came with our dinning set and I’m creating a separate, cozy seating area right over here. And our endtable is actually a cooler as well.”

Martin Amado: “The patio is coming along, but we still have an eyesore to contend with. Can you guys guess what it is? That’s right, it’s this A/C unit. Now, obviously we can’t move it, so the solution is to disguise it.”

Martin Amado: “So, the idea is to place this beautiful lattice in a box planter and then we’re going to plant some bougainvilleas, which will eventually grow up and create a beautiful, colorful wall of greenery.”

Martin Amado: “Perfect! I love how this turned out. At least now, the air conditioner doesn’t really draw all your attention as soon as you walk out here.”

Martin Amado: “Final touch! We’re done!”

Martin Amado: “And now this beautiful terrace becomes an extension of the homeowner’s indoor living space and totally reflects the outdoor lifestyle that Florida is known for. Until next time, I’m Martin Amado for 7News.”
