1 wounded after gunman opens fire on home

Posted: Updated:

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for the gunman who opened fire on a home early Thursday morning.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m., near Northwest Second Avenue and 82nd Terrace. Delisson Orvil, his wife, mother and children were sleeping when the bullets hit his home. "I know I was hit because when I see the bleeding," said Delisson Orvil.

Orvil was transported to an area hospital with a wound to his chest. He has since been treated and released with a bandage near his heart. "Yeah, I was very close," said Orvil about the gunshot wound on his chest.

Orvil was next to his wife at the time of the shooting spree. About 40 bullets hit his home. "All of us would be dead if you look at the house," said Orvil.

Residents who live nearby said they were asleep when the shots rang out. "All I heard was r-r-r-r-r-BOOM! I thought it was an automobile. I woke up, came to the front door and I saw nothing, so I went back to bed," said neighbor Matt Penn. "I know they have a lot of problems. Especially the house there. They always have problems over there."

Police are not sure if the suspect or suspects walked up to the house or drove by when they fired. They said several weapons were used including a high power riffle.

Orvil is grateful he and his family are alive. "When you look at the inside, God saved my life and my wife's life," he said.

No arrest has been made at this time.

If you have any information on this shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
