1 dead, 3 injured after fiery rollover crash on Rickenbacker

Posted: Updated:

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (WSVN) -- One person has died and three others are injured after the car they were in rolled over in the westbound lanes of the Rickenbacker Causeway and caught fire, Monday afternoon.

Witnesses said they watched the driver lose control of the red 2012 Chevy Camaro before it rolled over several times, severing a palm tree in half, before it came to stop in the median and caught fire, at around 3:30 p.m. Two Good Samaritans in separate cars jumped out to help the occupants, two men and two women, get out before the car caught fire. One got out on his own, but all others needed help to get out.

One man said he was able to pull one person out before the flames ignited. "I was driving by when I saw the accident," he said.

Police said had it not been for the Good Samaritans, the four inside would have died instantly. A used fire extinguisher could be seen scattered among the many bits of debris from the car that littered the median.

City of Miami Fire Rescue and Police responded to the scene and transported those injured in very serious condition. According to police, due to the extent of the injuries, it is possible that at least one passenger may not survive. Traffic homicide investigators are on the scene. Police think the car was likely traveling very fast before it crashed.

Officials said the driver has died at the hospital.

Westbound traffic was backed up for about three hours after the crash. All lanes have since reopened.

Police think that those involved in the accident are locals and are all somewhere in their 20s.

Miami is a city of vices and so is Sin City. Luckily, the 305 isn't as violent but we do love our vices. Shireen, what's your vice? Shoes, purses, lipgloss, anything that sparkles and shoes. Did I already say that? We also asked the cast of "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" what their vices are, from vino, cheese to Mexican food. You won't be disappointed.
