Woman arrested for fraud in Nordstrom shopping spree

Posted: Updated:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have arrested a woman accused of buying thousands of dollars worth of luxury items with stolen credit card information.

Twenty-seven-year-old Katty M. Hernandez was arrested at her apartment in Coral Gables, Monday.

According to police, Hernandez stole debit and credit information from her former employer in South Miami, then racked up charges at Nordstrom, leading to a long investigation.

Police have recovered more then $150,000 in items, including high-priced heels, watches, sunglasses and purses.

Police said a search warrant uncovered the stolen merchandise at her home. "I mean, we have Burberry, we have Prada, Louis Vuitton, glasses. Anything you can think of, and it's very high-end," said South Miami Police Sgt. Henry Guzman. "One of these purses go for $10,000."

Hernandez was already on probation for a fraud conviction a few years ago and is now facing new charges. "We've all been following this for several months and followed our leads the best we can until we got the subject," said Guzman.

Police believe there may be more victims. "Fraud is one of the biggest crimes out there right now. Follow up with the police departments. Make sure you get the proper documentation, and you never know, it may lead to an arrest just like it did in this case," said Guzman.

Some of Hernandez' charges include fraud, grand theft and money laundering.
