Video captures witnesses helping Rickenbacker crash victims

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Cell phone video captured the moment Good Samaritans jumped out of their cars to help victims of a rollover accident that claimed the life of one person.

Some of the video released was blurred out to protect the identities of the victims.

In a moment of panic, Good Samaritans pulled over to help. Witnesses said the red 2012 Chevy Camaro convertible flipped off the Rickenbacker Causeway and into the median Monday afternoon before it burst into flames.

Bystanders jumped out of their cars and ran to render aide. They pulled out the driver from the car who was unconscious. As he laid on the pavement, strangers cared for him. A man could be heard on the video calling 911.

Witness Esther Hernandez said two woman were still inside. "Everyone said, 'Don't touch anyone,' and I said, 'No, no, no, we can save the girls. It's two people inside,'" said Hernandez.

Several seconds after pulling the two women out safely, flames engulfed the car. "One minute before he took the girls in his arms coming out of the car, the car caught on fire," said Hernandez.

Witnesses put the blaze out on their own with fire extinguishers. Fire rescue rushed the four victims to the hospital. The driver witnesses worked so hard to save, Clinton O'Donohoe, died later that night at the hospital.

The Good Samaritans who risked their lives saved everyone else. "If they wouldn't have done what they did, those people cold have died," said Hernandez.

The three surviving victims continue to receive treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital. They are expected to be OK.

Miami Police continue to investigate the accident and wonder if excessive speed may have been the cause of the crash.
