Driver dies after crashing into tree

Posted: Updated:

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A 7News viewer shot video as crews extinguished a fiery crash that took the life of a South Florida driver.

The deadly accident happened just before 10 p.m., Tuesday, near Coral Springs Drive and Northwest 29th Street. According to police, the driver struck a tree at a high rate of speed, causing the tree to burst into flames.

Officials said the crash happened on a road where most people don't speed. "Not on this road. This road is actually only a few hundred yards from the police department, so people usually obey the speed limit here," noted Coral Springs Police Lt. Brad McKeone. "It goes to show you, when you travel at a high rate of speed, the danger, especially down here with all the trees that line the center median."

The driver died on the scene. No one else was in the car.

Remember, if you see news happening and can do so safely, take a picture or shoot video and send it to: senditto7@wsvn.com.

Some people are good at putting out fires. They're called firefighters. Others are good at baking pies. They're called bakers. But one man is excellent at both. He's a crusty firefighter, and we mean that in a really good way.
