MIAMI (WSVN) -- The family of a South Florida man who was seriously injured after a Lamborghini crashed into his sport utility vehicle is speaking out about the accident that also claimed the life of another man and injured the Lamborghini's driver.

Miami Beach Police said Raul Alfonzo was driving home from work in his Chevy Suburban, Thursday, around 2:50 a.m. He had stopped at a red light on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami Beach when, investigators said, a black Lamborghini traveling as fast as 120 miles per hour smashed into the rear of his SUV.

Police said Alfonzo and the driver of the Lamborghini, 53-year-old Andres Toro, were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Toro's passenger, 42-year-old Malcolm Lloyd, died at the scene shortly after the crash.

"I was going to wake up to go shower to go to school, and then my mom, she came into my room and she woke me up," said 16-year-old Helen Alfonzo, the victim's daughter, as she fought back tears. "She said, 'Helen, your dad was in an accident,' and then she turned on the TV, and by then they had the accident on TV already."

Investigators said Alfonzo suffered serious injuries. "He's doing really bad," said the victim's wife. "He had a really bad pain in all the body."

"He's a really good dad," said Helen Alfonzo. "He looks all tough and scary, but he's just a big teddy bear."

Police have charged Toro with vehicular homicide. In their arrest report, they said Toro "had bloodshot, watery eyes and a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage." Toxicology results remain pending.

Glen Goldberg, Alfonzo's attorney, said Toro was not focusing on the road while behind the wheel. "He was just going fast. He didn't apply the brakes," he said. "He never realized what was going on, and there was something that lost his attention. There was a reason why he wasn't concentrating on that road."

According to investigators, Toro said he had been at the Versace mansion prior to the accident. He was traveling with Lloyd, the CEO and founder of Double Cross Vodka, who was also known as "Dr. Vodka."

Toro has been given $100,000 bond. "As it stands right now, he's on a hospital bed and will be having further surgery within the next five to 10 days," said Kendall Coffey, Toro's attorney, at the driver's bond hearing. "He's not going anywhere for the time being."

When Toro leaves the hospital and posts bond, he will be placed under house arrest.

According to the State Attorney's Office, this is an ongoing investigation. They said Toro's charges could be upgraded.

Some people are good at putting out fires. They're called firefighters. Others are good at baking pies. They're called bakers. But one man is excellent at both. He's a crusty firefighter, and we mean that in a really good way.
