FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Two South Florida teens were rushed to the hospital Friday night after they were involved in a boating accident.

Police said three teenage girls were on a tube towed by a small boat off the Intracoastal when the vessel lost control. "We were going around the corner at about 20 miles an hour when the hydraulics system quit, and it just wouldn't work," said a boy who was on the boat, "and the throttle wouldn't work, either, and we didn't have enough time to press the kill switch."

With the boat out of control, the tube hit a piling. "We responded with one of our fire boats as well as numerous land-based units," said Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Troy Cool. "They got there. They still had two patients in the water. They were able to secure both patients."

Witnesses said the third teen was not as fortunate as her companions. "One of the girls went like that to the piling," said the boy on board the boat as he made a smacking sound.

Fire rescue officials said the third teen broke her collarbone. She and another victim were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said a 16-year-old was at the helm of a boat when the vessel lost control. They said the teens were on the water without an adult.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife officials, however, it is not illegal for minors to be out in the water without adult supervision. They said anyone under the age of 18 can operate a boat as long as they take a boating safety course sanctioned by the FWC.

Police said the driver of the boat will not be cited because they believe the accident was caused by a mechanical malfunction.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.

Some people are good at putting out fires. They're called firefighters. Others are good at baking pies. They're called bakers. But one man is excellent at both. He's a crusty firefighter, and we mean that in a really good way.
