MARATHON, Fla. (WSVN) -- A sea turtle's recovery led to its release back into the wild, Saturday morning.

Francis, a 170-pound loggerhead turtle, was set free in Marathon after suffering from a bacterial illness. She had been rescued in January off Vaca Cut, where she was found floating and struggling to dive.

X-rays revealed the turtle was suffering from an impaction, which, according to veterinarians, sometimes causes the intestinal tract to get infected. Veterinarians said this infection produces gas, which compromises the animal's buoyancy and causes it to remain floating on the surface.

Workers at The Turtle Hospital treated Francis with several antibiotics. After being nursed back to complete health, the turtle was ready to hit the open ocean again.
