Man arrested for recording police making arrest

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida man claims he took out his cell phone to record his friend being arrested before police turned on him and arrested him for no reason.

Lazaro Estrada pulled out his iPhone when he saw the arrest happening outside his family's business in Southwest Miami-Dade on March 17. "He notices that I'm recording, which is right there. He starts sending one, two, three, four officers," said Estrada while pointing to his video.

Estrada said his friend was being arrested for misdemeanor traffic charges when he started recording the arrest. In the video, the officer tells Estrada to go back inside the business. Estrada then records from inside the business. His fiancee, meanwhile, stood outside growing upset. "First of all, they grabbed me like you know, physically like here, and I'm here like, 'What seems to be the problem?'" said Estrada. "They were already dragging me outside the store, then they are like, 'Let me see some identification?' That is when I was like, 'OK, you want identification for what reason? What did I do wrong? I'm just recording.' You can hear in the video, he says, 'Um ... for ... for ... obstruction of justice.'"

Estrada spent 10 days in jail after the incident.

Miami-Dade Police have their side to the story as well. They said they asked Estrada to stay back numerous times and said he was instigating the officer and put officers' safety in jeopardy.

Police said Estrada disobeyed the officers by going back to his business and then coming back outside and was provoking the officer.

Police said the video will be used against Estrada in court.

Estrada disagrees with the officers and said he did nothing wrong. "I'm traumatized from now on. I'm really scared to record anything or pull out my phone," he said.

Estrada appeared in court on Monday morning. A trail date has been set for July 7.
