Imaj

Posted: Updated:

Deco Drive is a little bit country. Alright not all the time, but tonight for sure that's because fell in love with the sound of a Miami native, who's busy conquering the world of country.

One of Deco's favorite things is checking out new artists like the sultry and sweet Imaj.

Imaj - "I grew up in a very creative environment where creativity was just encouraged, and it was just love so."

Imaj - "I was born in Miami Beach. Grew up with a famous father and in a famous hometown. My father was Tubbs on Miami Vice."

It was her dad, Philip Michael Thomas, who encouraged Imaj to express herself musically.

Imaj - "I've been singing at my father's lap forever. He'd wake up at 6 o'clock in the morning and be playing piano , and I'd be on his lap singing with him."

So she became a country singer.

Imaj - "My biggest inspirations as far as country is concerned has always been the legends: Hank Sr., Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton."

Imaj - "As a writer I gravitated towards country music cuz it told a story."

Imaj co-wrote eight of the 12 songs on her new album, and toured with some of country's greats like Billy Dean, Gretchen Wilson and LeAnn Eimes to name a few.

Imaj - "I toured a lot with Collin Raye all over the place, and Colin reminded me so much of my father in that his arms are always open to everyone."

She also wrote a book just for fun.

Imaj - "That was a little side thing I did, I wrote a book called Harlow."

Because who hasn't written a book as a little side thing?

Imaj - "Story short its about a bi-racial girl who's hidden away in her father's castle, who ends up learning what it is to be human and not trapped like an animal. It's a love story."

A love story as great as the one she has with her fans.

Imaj - "I'm so appreciative of the fans because they're what allows me to do what I love for a living."

We caught up with Imaj at a high school she adopted. Hi Edward Pace!.

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.

Some people are good at putting out fires. They're called firefighters. Others are good at baking pies. They're called bakers. But one man is excellent at both. He's a crusty firefighter, and we mean that in a really good way.
