1826 Restaurant & Lounge

Posted: Updated:

1826 may be the new kid on the block, but its' already causing quite a stir on the South Beach dining scene.

Marysol Patton: "I saw it on the outside. I'm just waiting to see what it looks like inside."

A sleek state of the art four-story stand alone restaurant and lounge right on Collins and 18th Street. But don't let the glitz distract you. More than just a place to see and been seen. The real star here is the cuisine

Danny Grant: "Tuna with heirloom tomatoes and black olives."

The dishes look like works of art and this is the Picasso who creates them, fresh Chicago import Danny Grant. One of the youngest chefs to earn two Michelin Ctars and it's easy to see why.

Danny Grant: "Every dish gets this much love."

Louis: "Every dish. That's amazing brother."

From the cucumber gazpacho with almond dill and gin snow. To the house made foie gras and the signature grilled escolar with glazed potatoes and razor clams served with a delicate watercress puree.

Danny Grant: "It looks beautiful like that and finish with a little bit of that green sauce. It puts a beautiful backdrop on it."

Oh yeah, it's all about the sauce.

Danny Grant: "I think sauce work. Is almost a lost art in the culinary world, and so we focus on creating beautiful well balanced sauces."

And what's even more impressive, Chef Danny never went to culinary school. He learned on the job beginning at 14 years old as a dishwasher and working his way up, learning to cook in some of the finest kitchens in the world. But it all began with this...

Danny Grant: "My little sister got an Easy Bake oven for Christmas and before I knew it, it was my Easy Bake Oven. There's no Easy Bake Oven here in the kitchen. We got a real big one back there."

Hey, if this guy can learn to cook with a light bulb he can cook anything.

Louis: "That is awesome. That is beautiful."

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

The last time I had on a pair of overalls, I was miles from civilization with a whip in my hand, an hysterical co-worker by my side and five angry cowboys staring me down.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.
