Sneakers

Posted: Updated:

Sneakers are shoes most peeps just kick around in, but two Miami designers are kicking up new ideas with funky, posh and pumped up kicks, and Shireen Sandoval not letting the trend sneak by us.

These kicks are fun, funky and flirty, and they're fashionable too.

Alessandra Gold: "You can just do whatever you want with sneakers. They're the biggest trend in fashion. You know Karl Lagerfeld the Kaiser of fashion put sneakers in his couture collection in Paris."

Miami based designer Alessandra Gold saw the trend sneaking up early on.

Alessandra Gold: "We don't wanna be Nike. We wanna be this new shoey sneaker per se which is trendy and fashion and cool."

Her KruZin Line is wild and a little cray-cray too.

Alessandra Gold: "We started making this crazy, crazy shoes. I brought my background in apparel, textiles and silks and pony hair, and this and that and I mixed it all up. So the shoe became this piece of art."

With mixed materials and spiky nubs, they're not easy to make.

Alessandra Gold: "When I first presented my drawings, they were like we're not gonna make this, you're crazy."

Not really but check out her crazy horse line. This one's got a mane.

Alessandra Gold: "This shoe is our hero shoe today, and it's flying off the shelves."

Well it is the year of the horse must be a pegasus.

Alessandra Gold: "The mascot of the line is the little monster that you can see on the sole over here. If you can see it the hair is all spiked and the spike goes through on the shoe."

This line's inspired by Art Basel but all Gold's shoes are pretty artsy.

Another SoFlo designer, Del Toro is taking the bull by the shoe horn with high-end kicks in leather and other exotic skins like ostrich and crocodile.

Matthew Chevallard: "The only notion of sneakers a couple years ago were you know, the mass produced ones. I wanted to bridge the gap of high-end shoes with the sneaker world."

These sneaks are made in Italy.

Matthew Chevallard: "Everything has to be done artisanally and made very high-end, and just with tradition."

From artist collaborations to Disney and The Muppets, Del Toro helps your feet do the talking by making a statement.

Brad Barreto: "Shoes are important to me. I usually dress pretty plain and then my shoes are what really do it for me. You walk around and you have different shoes than everybody else, and it's that standing out, being different."

Mattie McDonald was one of the prettiest women I'd ever seen. She had light green eyes, dark brown hair and milky white skin. When she wafted by me, she smelled of lavender, honeysuckle and some other hypnotizing perfume I couldn't quite put my finger on. I spent a lot of my spare time daydreaming about her and not just because I wanted to know her. Ultimately, I wanted to be her.
