Il Sole Restaurant

Posted: Updated:

A new restaurant has opened it doors on South Beach happens all the time, right? This one is different nestled inside the Villa by Barton G, the former mansion of fashion icon Gianni Versace, lies IlSole. The food on your plate is as tasty and beautiful as the surroundings.

Foodies from far and near are flocking to Il sole. The new eatery inside the Villa by Barton G, the Mansion Gianni Versace once called home.

The restaurant's name means the sun, and the menu shines with deliciousness.

Jean Paul: "The restaurant is Mediterranean style influenced with some Italian and French cuisine added to it."

Thanks to Il Sole, the iconic property will never turn into some sedate museum.

Jean Paul: "It's just not walking in, taking a few pictures and leave. It's actually getting to dine in the actual dining room that Gianni and his guests such as Madonna, Elton John and numerous celebrities have dined with him privately before."

The menu may be a mix of the wonders of the Mediterranean. But chef Scott Linquist made sure his food also reflected the best of South Florida.

Chef Scott Linquist: "You have to represent the location and in doing that you have to represent the local farmers. The products. The flavors that people in those areas appreciate."

Being part of such a famous locale carries with it certain responsibilities.

Chef Scott Linquist: "And the guests you know, they're in awe when they walk through the door so the food has to live up to that."

Chef believes he's met that lofty standard by creating dishes like artichoke raviolo, butter-poached lobster, Chilean sea bass puttanesca and red snapper crudo all works of culinary artistry.

Chef Scott Linquist: "The food has evolved to something that I think is beautiful and spectacular."

There's a cozy little bar right off the dining room where you can share a cocktail as part of your intimate evening.

Chef Scott Linquist: "The lit-up onyx bar top you know is very classy and kind-of an old-school feel."

You'll feel like you're in another world when you're dining at Il Sole, but your first bite will make you feel right at home.

Chef Scott Linquist: "There's some heat and spice in the food that you might not find in the Mediterranean, but it is a nod to Miami and South Beach."

When I first heard that the Crop Top was back in style, I walked straight into my bedroom, stood in front of the mirror, lifted my shirt, turned to the side and stuck my gut out as far as it would go.

Mattie McDonald was one of the prettiest women I'd ever seen. She had light green eyes, dark brown hair and milky white skin. When she wafted by me, she smelled of lavender, honeysuckle and some other hypnotizing perfume I couldn't quite put my finger on. I spent a lot of my spare time daydreaming about her and not just because I wanted to know her. Ultimately, I wanted to be her.
