Fault In Our Stars actors make appearance at Dolphin Mall

SWEETWATER, Fla. (WSVN) -- Crowds of fans gathered at Dolphin Mall with hopes of meeting the stars of the upcoming movie "The Fault In Our Stars."

Thousands of people crowded Dolphin Mall to get a glimpse of Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgot, the stars of the new film. John Green, the author of the book also made an appearance. The movie is based on Green's book of the same name, which is about two teenagers named Hazel and Gus who fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group. Woodley plays Hazel Lancaster, the teenage girl who is recovering from cancer, while Elgot plays Augustus Waters, the boy Hazel falls in love with.

"I was actually surprised. I thought it was going to be a meet and greet, and I was hoping to get a signature, but no," said Henry Garcia, a John Green fan.

Woodley and Elgot arrived at the mall with Green Tuesday evening. Fans could not contain their excitement.

For Woodley and Elgot, this event was more of a reunion since they have also appeared together in the film "Divergent," another movie based on a popular young adult book. "I want to work with Shailene until I die. I hope it works out like that," said Elgot of his acting friend.

"It's just an amazing book. And emotional with love and compassion," said Daniela Anidjar, a young fan of the book. Her friend is also a fan.

"No one will ever read the book and not cry," said Aviva Sredni. These two friends waited at the mall since 9 a.m.

Nat Wolff plays Isaac in the movie. He said the book taught him a lot about life. "I think I was able have a little more compassion for people who are struggling in a way that I didn't completely understand," said Wolff.

Some kids even skipped school to get a glimpse of the stars. One mother said she brought her daughter and her daughter's friends after they begged her to go. "She's like, please, Mommy. I'll do anything for you. Whatever you want. Just please take me with my friends. I can't sleep all night," said Zoubida Benmira, a mother who let her daughter skip school for the event.

South Florida fans of the book said it was a no-brainer to go to the mall to show their support of the upcoming film. "I saw there was a whole tour, and I thought, 'Oh, maybe they will show up in Miami,' and it did, at Dolphin Mall, which is like five minutes from my house, so I'm like holy cow! John Green is like right in front of my house. Awesome!" said Chris Czapla, a teenage fan of the author.

Green was also surprised by the large turnout. He was not expecting to see so many people. "We thought there would be a good crowd, but I didn't imagine that there would be fire marshal issues. So it's awesome. I'm really excited," said Green.

Umbrellas and water bottles were passed out to fans who were waiting out in the sun. Miami Fire and Rescue was on the scene, and they treated some people for heat exhaustion.

"People were passing out. People had blue lips and pale faces. Some people couldn't walk. Others were getting carried to ambulances," said Cassandra Catesson, who was disappointed with the crowd control.

Some people thought that the event was unorganized, by Sweetwater Police said the event went rather well.

"The Fault In Our Stars" will be in theaters on June 6. It is expected to be a major summer blockbuster.

South Florida was the first place to get a visit from the stars of the movie after winning a contest on social media.
