Godzilla - Bryan Cranston

Posted: Updated:

It's been a heck-of-a few good years for actor Bryan Cranston. He's gone from starring in the amazing show "Breaking Bad," to making a major break through playing a scientist in "Godzilla." Deco's Shireen Sandoval caught up with the actor in New York City. They chatted about monsters of course and the making of Godzilla's wrenched scream.

Bryan Cranston stars as a mad scientist in "Godzilla" 3D. But he didn't start out that way.

His character discovers "Godzilla" or at least he thinks the government is hiding a big secret. He just didn't know that it was a two-ton, gigantic, scary, lizard slash monster.

I caught up with Mr. Cranston in New York City to chat about his new role and the fact that audiences love em' a good Godzilla movie.

Shireen: "It seems to have a world wide popularity. What do you attribute that to?"

Bryan Cranston: "Well, I think first of all Godzilla's history is legendary."

Shireen: "Yes amazing."

Bryan Cranston: "It goes back I don't know how many years."

Godzilla was first created in the 50s when Cranston was just a boy.

Shireen: "It just frightened me, and excited me to no end to see this absolute destruction."

Bryan Cranston: "What I was doing with my friends in our backyard. We were watching it on the TV screen and the movie screen, it was much bigger and the sound."

Bryan loved working on the movie especially because it had a big budget.

Bryan Cranston: "The work itself is not dis-similar from a low budget movie.

Shireen: "Right."

Bryan Cranston: "You approach your character the same way, you still have to find an emotional core to that character. The schedule is different. You're not working as many crazy hours, you have a nicer trailer.

In a major motion picture like this: A lot of the money goes to the digital special affects.

Bryan Cranston: "We're acting against a green screen looking up at nothing and imagining Godzilla's head and tail over there."

Shireen: "And how do they do that? Are they yelling at you."

Bryan Cranston: "Yeah, kind of. Look at the head. Look at the tail. Start running. Look back."

Even though it felt a little strange at times, Bryan admits it looks pretty fantastic on film.

Shireen: "My fake eye lashes are going to come off."

Bryan Cranston: "Mine already did."

"Godzilla" should be your go to summer movie because you don't wanna make a monster mad.

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.

Some people are good at putting out fires. They're called firefighters. Others are good at baking pies. They're called bakers. But one man is excellent at both. He's a crusty firefighter, and we mean that in a really good way.
