Miami beats Texas Tech 2-1 in 10 innings

Posted: Updated:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - David Thompson had an RBI double with one out in the top of the 10th inning and Miami beat Texas Tech 2-1 Monday to avoid elimination in the Coral Gables regionals.

Hurricanes closer Bryan Garcia (7-4) pitched the final three innings for the win in a game suspended due to rain in the eighth inning Sunday night.

Miami (43-18) and Texas Tech (42-19) will play again in a winner-take-all regional title game later this afternoon with the winner advancing to the super regionals.

When the game resumed Monday, Miami trailed 1-0 with none on and one out in top of the eighth. The Hurricanes tied the score in the inning when Tyler Palmer raced home from third on Thompson's run-scoring groundout.
