FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A social media campaign to raise funds for a 2-year-old South Florida boy who nearly drowned has taken off.

Skyler Edwards and Jenna Edwards walked down the halls of the hospital wearing green Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirts with the words "Turtle Power for James" emblazoned on them.

James is their 2-year-old son who, close to two weeks ago, nearly drowned in their Coral Springs home pool.

"The MRI came back, and he had some damage of the basal ganglia," said father Skyler Edwards. "I think we'll know more once he is more alert and awake. Then they'll be able to give us a better idea of what the next step is to getting rehabilitated."

It remains unclear what James' prognosis will be. James' mother, Jenna Edwards, said, "We're trying to keep him as comfortable as possible until we can really wake him up and start the battle of where are we with his brain damage and what he is capable and what he is not capable of."

However, his family has hope and they are leaning on James' favorite characters, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for help. "He loves the turtles," said the boy's mother. "I think it has really trained him for this battle. He has been trained. The turtles have trained him to fight. The turtles have trained him to stay strong."

A fight that has made its way to Facebook with more than 24,000 likes. Strangers have donated money in James' honor. "We know with the continued positivity of others that he's going to be OK," said Jenna Edwards. "He's going to get through this, and we're going to get through this. People have lifted us up."

Skyler Edwards said, "We know that he is going to recover 100 percent from this. There's no doubt in my mind that he is going to be OK."
