HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A wedding reception at a South Florida country club turned into a crime scene Saturday after, officials said, a guest was stabbed.

Police and fire rescue crews responded to the scene at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, located at 4600 Hillcrest Drive in Hollywood. "I saw all through the parking lot, they had three or four squad cars," said witness Lynch Lee Hymn.

According to area residents, the incident inside the country club was so loud that it could be heard from the parking lot outside. "I heard what sounded like a panic, like a scream but more like a crowd," said Hymn, who lives near the country club.

Hymn said he didn't think much of the commotion at first, since the venue hosts weddings, events and big parties on a regular basis. "I figured that it was, you know, the highlight of the wedding." he said.

According to Hollywood Fire Rescue, an unruly guest inside the reception hall started an argument, then stabbed a man twice, once in the stomach and once in the chest. They said the subject then ran outside.

Witnesses said vendors and wedding guests were all around. "Everyone was going. It wasn't like a mass panic, and there were still people when they were taking out the victim in the entrance," said Hymn. "It looked like people were going back inside. It wasn't like the police were trying to get everybody out. I saw the ambulance, I saw the person getting wheeled out. One of the club members was in a yellow shirt trying to get people out of the way."

Officials from the club said the fight was between two cousins. Lewis Rissman, a spokesperson for Hillcrest Country Club, said, "The wedding , we just continued, business as usual. We just continued. The police reacted really well to the emergency. The ambulance came real quick."

The victim was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was last listed in serious condition. "This is a very isolated incident, it's kinda strange," said Rissman. "You know, you have family feuds at weddings. We do hundreds of weddings, so it does happen from time to time but nothing like this."

Witnesses said, after the victim was transported to the hospital, some visibly flustered guests drove away, whereas others returned inside the club as the wedding reception resumed.

"It's obviously some people were a little shaken up by the whole thing, and it came as a shock to the family as well," said Rissman.

Hymn said the outcome could have been far more tragic. "It's unfortunate that someone got hurt, but at least it wasn't on a mass scale, you know, with a gun or any other type of weapon that could injure a lot of people at once," he said.

Despite the incident, the couple did tie the knot.

Witnesses said they never saw anyone put in the back of a squad car or questioned over the incident. Police have not confirmed whether they have a suspect in custody or if they are searching for one.
