Tammy

Posted: Updated:

If you're having a bad time, cheer up or check out how Melissa McCarthy does it in her new comedy "Tammy." The cast told us about their ways to make a bad day better.

"Tammy" is a movie about choices, like making the choice to go on a road trip with your crazy grandma and ending up having to rob a fast food store.

Disclaimer: Don't rob anyone, no matter how bad of a day you're having.

Gary Cole: "No, I've tried that. It does relieve stress, you know, but you know, I escape without any law enforcement intervention, so..."

He's joking, we're sure. Here are some other things not to do.

Mark Duplass: "The don't list is a movie called 'Tammy.' You just watch the movie and transcribe the film."

Gary Cole: "Do the opposite."

Mark Duplass: "That's your don't list."

Easy enough, and if you are having a bad day kinda like Tammy does in the movie, just chill.

Kathy Bates: "Well, that's a lifelong problem I've had. I just try to let it go. I just try to say, 'Is this really important in the scheme of things?' If it's not life or death, if I'm not having to dive into a shark tank to rescue my child, then chill, you know?"

Melissa McCarthy: "If I'm having a really bad day, I just try to get home as soon as I can and huddle up, let my kids do weird things for me and just talk to Ben. I try to go back to center and block it all out. And usually, two minutes in the backyard with my kids and Ben, and then I'm like, 'It's not so bad.'"

Did we mention these two are married? They know all about each other's weird bad day habits.

Ben Falcone: "According to Melissa, it's one of the crazy things I do is that, if things start to seem weird, I start to go slower."

Melissa McCarthy: "Yes. It is a really weird thing he does. I can't believe he said that cause I always tell him that and he goes, 'I don't do that. Ohhh, that's interesting.'"

Ben Falcone: "Her solution would be like, move faster, get out of there, do something. I'm just like, 'Let's all just take a big breath, chill out. We'll figure it out.'"

Melissa McCarthy: "Yeah, when it gets really stressful, even if it's like, we're not late a lot, but something, anything which literally, physically requires you to move faster, he will all of a sudden start going like, just getting into the car. And I'm spazzier, so I'm like, 'Why are you moving slow? You're literally moving slower.' And he goes, 'I'm not moving slower.'"

Ben Falcone: "My solution is to get super calm, almost to a, you know, zombie-like way."

Melissa McCarthy: "Yeah, he goes into like weird, slow robot mode. It's very interesting."

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.
