4th of July Barbecue

Posted: Updated:

The Fourth of July weekend is almost here. It is time for some chillin' and grillin'. There's no need for you to spend your holiday sweating over a hot grill. Two So-Flo eateries are bringing the heat and plan to provide a tasty path to barbecue heaven.

Declare your independence from cooking on July 4th. The Ritz-Carlton in Coconut Grove wants to thrill you with a barbecue brunch. It's beer, burgers, brats and more.

Ashley Stanton: "We really partnered with Wynwood Brewery, and we were able to create some really unique dishes and infuse all the beer, kinda changing it up a little bit."

It's a not a barbecue without ribs, and these bad boys have a taste all their own.

Ashley Stanton: "Our maple barbecue pork ribs, and you get a whole half a rack with french fries, and what we do with our maple barbecue is, we infuse La Rubia Beer."

For those who walk the walk and talk the talk, when it comes to pork, the pulled variety awaits you.

Ashley Stanton: "A pulled pork sandwich featuring a La Rubia and guava barbecue, and it has our fresh pulled pork and a cider apple slaw and a little bit of horseradish."

The meat parade continues with beer-soaked brats.

Ashley Stanton: "A beer-braised bratwurst with nice sautéed peppers and onions in a Cajun aioli."

Chicken wings and grilled shrimp will be available on the barbie. Various liquids will be poured at poolside. The party starts at noon and you'll need a reservation to attend. Don't let that stop you.

Ashley Stanton: "But here you've got the beautiful pool. You've got the beautiful view and you have the great service."

Over on South Beach, Florida Cookery in the James Royal Palm Hotel is set to celebrate, 305-style.

Holly Winter: "We're very excited to be offering a full-on summer barbecue pool party."

By full-on, she means everything you could possibly want to eat or drink.

Holly Winter: "We'll be offering a full grilling station led by our executive chef Billy Boyle and his team, offering seafood meats, your regular kind of Fourth of July specialties, along with a Bloody Mary bar and specialty cocktails."

The chef won't be holding anything back when it's time to rock the grill.

Holly Winter: "Fresh fish tacos, as well as his homemade chili. He'll also be doing our traditional hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches with a little bit of a Florida twist."

Cancel your other engagements. This is gonna take a while.

Holly Winter: "Guests of the hotel and locals are invited to join us at Florida Cookery Patio and around our pool to experience an all-day event."

Your night is guaranteed to end with a bang.

Holly Winter: "And we also offer direct beach access. You can go right outside onto the beach area and see fireworks from South Pointe."

When I first heard that the Crop Top was back in style, I walked straight into my bedroom, stood in front of the mirror, lifted my shirt, turned to the side and stuck my gut out as far as it would go.

Mattie McDonald was one of the prettiest women I'd ever seen. She had light green eyes, dark brown hair and milky white skin. When she wafted by me, she smelled of lavender, honeysuckle and some other hypnotizing perfume I couldn't quite put my finger on. I spent a lot of my spare time daydreaming about her and not just because I wanted to know her. Ultimately, I wanted to be her.

When I walked out of the Hong Kong airport, the heat of the city slapped me so hard across the face, it was like a woman catching her cheating husband with a long-suspected mistress.

You can work up a great big hunger when you're an action hero, especially if you're playing a guy who's half man, half god. Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson gets really hungry in his latest movie, "Hercules." Our So-Flo homeboy had to stay pretty jacked for the role. That meant watching his diet, but when it was finally time to let loose, he knew just where to go.
