Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Posted: Updated:

You know where the stars from "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" would go after a long day of shooting? The monkey bars. But one night they hit the red carpet and hung with Deco. Deco Shireen is here with the premiere party in San Francisco.

The actors can't believe how realistic the apes are in the movie, but Deco found it hard to tell the human actors from the ape actors on the red carpet.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is not just a sequel. It's also an origin story.

The movie reveals how apes evolved to dominate Earth, and they're pretty realistic.

Jason Clarke leads a small band of humans who've survived an apocalyptic virus and come face-to-face with the apes. And he's telling Deco it's gonna be a battle.

Jason Clarke: "This is gonna be a very tough situation. It's gonna be a very ugly situation at times, and I want people to go into it and invest in it and feel each side, and have empathy throughout the course of the film."

Gary Oldman says the apes are so human-like, it's hard to pick a side.

Gary Oldman: "There's a community and it wants to save itself that are apes. And there's a human community that wants to save/keep the human race, and you really want them to, ahh, co-exist."

There are good apes and bad apes, same for the humans. The human ape actors let Deco in on a little secret.

Judy Greer: "I went to an ape training camp, basically, with Terry Notary, kind of the king of the apes. He's kind of the guru and he taught me everything I know about acting like an ape."

Judy's co-star Karin Konoval learned all her character Maurice's moves from a real-life orangutan, and Deco pushed to see what he taught her.

Karin Konoval: "Well, all right, just because we're here, one of the things orangutans do when they're eating is, they like to study food on their lips so they're chewing something. So you always see that, they study food on their lips."

Andy Serkis, who plays head chimp Caesar, showed Deco the difference between apes and humans.

Andy Serkis: "So if I was talking I'd be using a lot of words and I'd be waving my hands around in a rather extraneous manner, whereas Caesar, if he was talking, he...would...be...(snorts)...economic."

And his human co-star can't get over the technology that brought Andy's nuanced performance to the big screen.

We're giving away tickets to a pre-dawn showing of the movie. Actually, it's at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday night in South Miami. To enter, e-mail your name, address and daytime phone number to giveaways@decodrive.com. The rest of you can check it out when it hits theaters on July 11th.

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.
