So. Fla. residents spend 4th of July watching World Cup games

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- It may be Independence Day in the USA, but many South Floridians are celebrating the holiday by rooting for their teams in the World Cup.

At the Fritz and Franz pub in Coral Gables, hundreds rooted for their teams during the France and Germany soccer match, Friday afternoon.

Many said although they are supporting their teams this Fourth of July, they plan on celebrating Independence Day later in the day. "I'll celebrate that later. I'm going to the Biltmore tonight," said a Germany fan. "I'll do fireworks tonight, but I already told my mom, 'If Germany loses, don't expect me to be happy.' I'm going for moral support just cause I live here, but that's it, that's it. I'm not celebrating Fourth of July. I love America, but I'm sorry. It's all about Germany today."

Throughout the duration of the World Cup, the Fritz and Franz' menu will feature a meal from every country that has participated in the World Cup.

The winners of the France and Germany game will take on the winners of the Colombia and Brazil match, scheduled to start at 4 p.m., Friday.

Germany beat France 1-0 and will head on to the World Cup semifinals.
