Suspected drunk driver arrested in multi-vehicle crash; child hospitalized

Posted: Updated:

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A suspected drunk driver is in custody after he caused a car chase that involved three vehicles and left a child injured.

The chase began when a Hollywood Police officer saw a drunk driver at John U. Lloyd State Park. After leading police on a dangerous chase, the driver damaged at least two cars, both of which had children inside.

Christina Duenas said the drunk driver hit her car, but neither she nor her children were injured. "He was speeding through, and he sideswiped my car, hit the guard gate, slammed into another car," she said. "His car came to rest, and he got out and ran, and then the park rangers chased him down and got him."

In one of the cars, a child was injured and needed to be transported to the hospital. The child's condition remains unknown, at this time. However, Florida Highway Patrol said that the child is expected to be OK.

The entrance to the park is now closed due to the accident.
