MIAMI (WSVN) -- The boat collision near Dinner Key Marina that claimed four lives and injured eight others has put a spotlight on Jackson Memorial Hospital, where some of the most critically injured victims were taken and where a young woman involved in the tragic Fourth of July accident continues to fight for her life.

According to authorities, Andrew Garcia, Tori Dempsey, Kelsie Karpiak and an unidentified person died in the collision, which involved three boats and occurred late Friday night after holiday festivities ended.

Saturday night, at least one of the survivors, 24-year-old Catherine Payan, remained at Ryder Trauma Center surrounded by loved ones. Her stepfather said she suffered a head injury during the collision and was unresponsive when emergency crews got to her.

Sources told 7News that Garcia, an avid boater and fisherman, was driving the boat carrying at least three of the girls, including Karpiak and Payan, when it collided with another. Garcia was reportedly ejected from the vessel, and it continued on to hit another boat.

Dempsey and Garcia's bodies were reportedly both found in the water on Saturday. Karpiak was pronounced dead upon arrival at JMH.

A close friend said the Karpiak family had planned to spend the holiday weekend with relatives visiting from out of town. Those relatives are now consoling Karpiak's loved ones, helping them to cope with a loss that they couldn't put into words on Saturday.
