$5 Burgers

Posted: Updated:

Monday, Monday can't trust that day. The weekend's over and the work week begins. There's a new reason to never have a blue Monday ever again thanks to a trio of SoFlo restaurants, Monday's a great day for your palette and your wallet.

Mondays just got really good. Three Fort Lauderdale eateries are getting your week off to a great start with $5 burgers. First stop, Tap 42.

Andrew Balick: "So we do Prohibition Burger Mondays here at Tap 42 and we offer our 8-ounce beef blend burger which is chuck tenderloin and strip loin."

Not much about the prohibition burger is prohibited. You get plenty of beef and plenty of bang for your buck.

Andrew Balick: "Comes with fries pickle, special sauce dijonnaise, lettuce, tomato and onion."

The deal is special the title of the burger, not so much.

Andrew Balick: "It was an original name that when we first rolled out our original menu at Tap 42 and it stuck. It's become a crowd favorite so we're not gonna mess with a good thing."

The one-day deal is way for Tap 42 to thank their customers.

Andrew Balick: "We want to give our guests great value and let them know we appreciate them."

Over at Tarpon Bend, they call their Monday night delight "the big cheese" meat lovers, take note this is one serious patty.

Peter Boulukos: "We have a special blend, proprietary blend that we make. It has short rib it also has chuck it has brisket and rib eye."

Once all that comes together, then the magic really starts.

Peter Boulukos: "We have a special dry blend of spices that we use and then we have our own special toppings on there."

The "big cheese" is plated with a big batch of fries. It's an offer not many can refuse.

Peter Boulukos: "It starts at five o'clock and they are in the seats at ten to five waiting."

There's a simple reason why the "big cheese" is a big hit.

Peter Boulukos: "We got the best burger plain and simple."

American Social is also in on Monday meat madness. You can hit the Las Olas hot spot for their "AM-SO" burger.

Rick Mijares: "It's our 8-ounce prime grade beef American, cheese Boston, lettuce, tomato, onion and our special AM-SO sauce."

Look at it this way, the AM-SO burger is an inexpensive way to exhale.

Rick Mijares: "Well after a big weekend people they wind down you know, people spend a lot of money shopping and dining out over the weekend so it's a nice way to give everyone a little break."

There's more to do at American Social on Mondays than just chow down on a burger. You can test your knowledge of pop culture as well.

Rick Mijares: "We offer a trivia game where a company comes in with a trivia host, they pass out small booklets to anyone that wants to participate, and they total up the scores we offer prizes."

Anyway you slice it this is such a good deal.

Rick Mijares: "$5 burgers works every time."

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.

The last time I had on a pair of overalls, I was miles from civilization with a whip in my hand, an hysterical co-worker by my side and five angry cowboys staring me down.

I don't remember dying, but I did. Twice. It was a chilly Fall morning in October at a dentist's office in Santa Fe. My mom had escorted me to what was supposed to be a regular wisdom teeth extraction appointment.

Sometimes, love can be hard to find in South Florida. The same can't be said for burgers, though. Tasty patties are everywhere. A new joint is offering up a unique take on this favorite comfort food. It's fresh, healthy and tastes like nothing you've tried before. Welcome to Burger Love.

Some people are good at putting out fires. They're called firefighters. Others are good at baking pies. They're called bakers. But one man is excellent at both. He's a crusty firefighter, and we mean that in a really good way.
