PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are searching for a group of men responsible for stealing a gold chain from a customer standing in line at a South Florida convenience store.

Surveillance cameras captured the incident at the 7-Eleven located on North State Road 7 and Sixth Court in Plantation, last week. The footage shows the subjects, some of whom were wearing red shirts, entering the store. They stand around, ostensibly waiting for their next victim.

"They were in the store before I walked in, cause I was sitting outside like five minutes before I walked in," said Artic Wilcox, the customer targeted by the subjects for his gold chain, "so they were in the store for a while."

The video shows Wilcox walking in wearing a red cap. As he stood by the front counter, he said he felt a pulling sensation on his neck. "I just felt something hit me in the back of my neck," he said, "and when I turned around, it was a guy that had snatched my gold and then ran out the door. He had five other guys with him, so I couldn't do anything but let him go."

The footage corroborates Wilcox's account. One of the subjects is seen behind the victim reaching in and yanking the gold chain that, Wilcox said, was a birthday gift given to him last year along with a gold bracelet. "You know, when it happened to me, it's just like you're in another world," Wilcox said.

Right after the thief grabbed Wilcox's chain, the video shows the other subjects waiting outside the front door to make sure the victim did not attempt to go after him. "When I turn around and I'd seen the guy running to the door, I could have stopped him, but I see he had his friends with him."

Wilcox said he was afraid the other men would have jumped him if he tried to retrieve his chain. "Wasn't no need of getting hurt," he said. "It shouldn't happen, it shouldn't happen."

If you have any information on this brazen theft, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
