SUP The Work Out

In SoFlo, it's all about being bathing suit ready and since it's hot, humid and always a chance of rain, working out outside can be questionable. Now there is a workout that's just like being outside only you don't need sunscreen and it doesn't matter what mother nature is doing.

It's time to stand up for SUP, the work out.

Melina Cherry: "This is SUP, the work out, and it's a new indoor stand up paddling facility. It's the first one and the only one the country."

Thanks to SUP in Coconut Grove you can paddle board day, night, rain or shine.

Melina Cherry: "It can get you ready for outdoors and it can be a workout itself."

It's just like traditional paddle boarding only drier.

Melina Cherry: "The machine is an indoor simulator for the outdoor activity of stand up paddling. It is the closest thing to the outdoor activity."

This lets you look like a pro, gets you in great shape and you never have to unload a board from your car.

Melina Cherry: "The purpose is to prepare for the water. Learn stand up paddling technique and to also get strength and condition for the activities on the water."

Since they're on dry land SUP found a way to recreate the challenges of being on the open water.

Melina Cherry: "The way we create current and wind is upping the resistance on the fly wheel. We also have fly wheel covers that makes it more resistant, and those are the conditions that we try to imitate."

And for the waves the SUP board will put a spring in your step.

Melina Cherry: "The machine has six springs and we can remove two of them to make the platform more unstable. It's a totally body workout. It's gluts and hamstrings. You will engage your gluts and your hamstrings. The core is very strongly involved and the hips."

And for some extra conditioning, put the paddle down for some bonus balance work and cardio.

Melina Cherry: "That portion is geared toward supplementing the movements on the paddle board."

Because you can control the resistance and the speed, SUP is for everyone from beginners to pros.

Melina Cherry: "The benefits are endless."

Stand and deliver, SUP is making a splash in SoFlo.
