Van driver, FHP trooper hospitalized in I-95 accident

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A busy South Florida expressway became a driver's worst nightmare Tuesday night after a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser and a van were involved in an accident that sent two people to the hospital.

According to FHP officials, the van and the cruiser were involved in some sort of accident southbound on I-95, just south of Hallandale Beach Boulevard, around 9:30 p.m.

As late as midnight on Wednesday, traffic remained backed up on the southbound lanes of I-95.

Officials said the driver of the van sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital South.

The FHP trooper involved in the accident was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital as a precaution.
