WSVN — The South Florida water is a great inspiration for any home. On today’s Room for Improvement, our Makeover Maestro is bringing the style of the coast inside.

Martin Amado: “The inspiration on today’s Room for Improvement is this beautiful water view. The homeowner wants her home living room to reflect a bit more of a coastal style. So, let’s go meet her and make it happen.”

Martin Amado: “All right Denise, so you have a beautiful home, and I love the view as soon as you walk into the house itself, but I know you’re not too happy with the way the living room looks right now.”

Denise: “Correct. It’s just kind of dark, and I’m ready to lighten it up and get more of a coastal vibe.”

Martin Amado: “So, the dark leather couches can go?”

Denise: “Absolutely.”

Martin Amado: “And how about this big, humongous wine cabinet here?”

Denise: “Yes, please!”

Martin Amado: “I’ll see what I can do. I have some ideas in terms of what I want to do with the space, and how it’s going to look at the end. So, you can go about your day, and of course, we’ll surprise you at the end.”

Martin Amado: “All right, so the first thing we did was clear out the entire room. Let’s bring in some of the new pieces.”

Martin Amado: “The decorative pillows on the sofa came with a Poly-Fil insert, so by swapping them out with a down pillow, we create a more luxurious look and feel on the sofa itself.”

Martin Amado: “Now, I kept Denise’s existing coffee table because I love the combination of the rustic right next to the classic furniture. It’s that eclectic beach look that we’re going for.”

Martin Amado: “A simple switch of the white sheers to blue helps to bring in some of the water color we see outside, inside the house.”

Martin Amado: “When you first open the front door, you walk straight into the living room, so I want to define this area off to the left and make it more functional.”

Martin Amado: “By placing a shelf and an upholstered bench and some baskets underneath, now Denise’s kids have a place to put all of their stuff as soon as they get home from school.”

Martin Amado: “Final touch! Let’s go get Denise.”

Martin Amado: “Open your eyes!”

Denise and kids: “I like it! Whoa! Yay! It looks great! I love the lamps! What do you think, Jack?”

Jack: “Awesome!”

Martin Amado: “He said awesome! Do you approve, mom?”

Denise: “Yes! It looks great!”

Martin Amado: “To all of the viewers at home, we thank you for watching, and we’ll see you next time on another Room for Improvement!”
