Fresh First

Posted: Updated:

A Fort Lauderdale restaurant is getting fresh with you. But this new spot is missing something, and that's just the way they like it.

Fresh First is South Florida's first all gluten-free restaurant and juicery. If it sounds exclusive, it's not.

Francesca Siragusa: "In here we serve something for everyone. We have vegan and vegetarian options, as well as fish and chicken and turkey bacon, for example, that comes on our Eggs Benedict for breakfast."

Leave your differences at the door. This is a place where all can dine in an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence.

Francesca Siragusa: "Somebody who is vegan can come and eat with somebody who would love to have a chicken sandwich for lunch, and they both can dine and have a happy and healthy meal."

If you've got to go gluten-free, Fresh First is the place to be. They've got your back with everything they put on your plate.

Francesca Siragusa: "Because a lot of people don't realize how important it is for somebody who has to eat gluten-free for them to feel safe and confident in ordering what they're gonna order at a restaurant, and here they have no worries whatsoever."

Treating your taste buds right is good for you and good for business.

Francesca Siragusa: "Taste is definitely as important as health. If you take a bite of something and it's not that flavorful, you're not gonna come back."

Flavor rules the Asian green salad with crimini mushrooms, spiralized golden beets, avocado and ginger dressing. And the house grilled cheese sandwich is a mix of brie, extra sharp cheddar and spicy apple slices on waffle bread. You can wash them down with a glorious green smoothie.

Francesca Siragusa: "It has kale, avocado, mango, mint and lime in it."

Whether it's a vegetable pasta plate or a dessert straight from gluten-free heaven, the folks at Fresh First fix up food that aims to please.

Francesca Siragusa: "And that's what we love, knowing that we're serving up, just not only healthy but flavorful fresh food."

Big, bouncing, beautiful butts: that's what pop culture is currently obsessed with. I can't blame people, though. I mean, I get it. I love JLo's luscious curves, Kim Kardashian's arguably more-than-ample derriere, Miley Cyrus' terrific, tail-twerking ways; I'm even warming up to Nicki Minaj's booty-popping song and video, "Anaconda."

I'll never forget the endless summers I spent on the coast of North Carolina. My shoulders were always kissed by the sun, my hair was continually salty from the ocean and my one-piece, bright blue bathing suit was my constant companion.
