WSVN — Out with the old and in with the new year! Our makeover maestro is giving a boring bedroom a refreshed look for 2016 in tonight’s Room for Improvement.

Martin Amado: "New year, new home or so they say! Realistically though, we have to work with what we have, so on today’s Room for Improvement’ we’re giving this bedroom an update for 2016."

Martin Amado: "The first thing that I notice that needs an update, and will change the look of the entire room, are the windows. We have 1, 2, 3, 4. So, let’s get to work."

Martin Amado: "If you notice, this window is taller than this one. Our solution to keep everything visually in balance is to install the rods at the same height around the entire room."

Martin Amado: "Next up, let’s update the dresser. I’ve never been a fan of the mirror attached to the dresser, especially when there’s a TV on it. So, by removing it, we’re going to turn this into a media console."

Martin Amado: "By hanging it on this wall, we’re turning it into a full-body mirror, making it more useful for the homeowner. Perfection! Love it."

Martin Amado: "Now, with a small bench underneath, upholstered of course, we create a beautiful focal point out of a blank wall. With the mirror gone and the shelf above it, now the dresser makes more sense. Before, it was either a dresser, a TV console. It was going through an identity crisis."

Martin Amado: "Before, the homeowner had this lamp for lighting. I think we can do better.

Martin Amado: "What can I say? You can’t beat a gorgeous table lamp like this one, especially with the crystal base."

Martin Amado: "Nothing gives a bedroom an instant makeover like new bedding. So, of course, with this huge, king size bed, that’s our next step."

Martin Amado: "Remember for that hotel look, you gotta have lots of pillows… Loving all the textures on the bed. It gives it a very glamorous style. And, remember, another tip, the pillows go from biggest to smallest."

Martin Amado: "And the details make it all come together! A good motto to live by in the new year is ‘live, laugh and love.’"

Martin Amado: "This guys, is how you achieve a one-day makeover. You work with what you have to save money, switch things around and add the decorative accessories to give it a brand new look to get the ‘wow’ factor for much less. Remember there’s more tips online in our Online Extra and I’ll see you next time on Room for Improvement."
