While the rest of the country is digging out of the snow, we’re ready to dig out our sandals! Trending this spring is the gorgeous gladiator sandal that lace-up all the way. Tonight, working the style like a Grecian goddess is one of Shireen’s Favorite Things.
Back in the day, Russell Crowe totally slayed in the movie "Gladiator" rippling muscles, a fancy outfit and those shoes?
Shireen Sandoval: "Wasn’t Russell Crowe wearing gladiator shoes?"
Mika Diaz: "Yes, he was."
Shireen Sandoval: "And a skirt."
Even though the movie came out more than a decade ago, "Gladiator" fashions still make a killer statement.
Mika Diaz: "The most searched word in women’s shoes in 2015 was "gladiator" and it ranged from ages 15 to 50."
Fast forward to spring 2016…
Shireen Sandoval: "It’s always good to get your Grecian on!
Mika Diaz: "Definitely."
Helping me step into the style is Mika Diaz from MIA Shoes. We met up at the Mandarin Oriental in Brickell Key.
Mika Diaz: "Something special about ours is they’re adjustable. They have a zipper in the back, and it adjusts to different calf sizes."
It’s all about the lace-up all the way to the knee.
Shireen Sandoval: "It seems like a lot of the natural colors are in."
Mika Diaz: "Yeah, so it’s earthtones, basic neutrals, the black, the browns, luggage."
The best way to work the trend?
Mika Diaz: "I personally like wearing them with a dress because it’s the easiest thing to wear them with. A high-low dress can also work."
For the blog, we went for drama! Isn’t that how the gladiators did it? With kaftans and jewels from Le Beau Maroc. I worked the flat trend and heels, too.
Mika Diaz: "We’ve also included fringe, which is also a big trend this season."
If you really wanna go all out, add a pop of color with a pom-pom pair. No matter how you work your "gorgeous gladiators," they’re sure to make your gams look great. That’s why they’re one of Shireen’s Favorite Things.
