LIBERTY CITY, Fla. (WSVN) — The 7th Avenue Transit Village celebrated it’s grand opening Friday.

The new building near Northwest Seventh Avenue and 62nd Street includes housing units, a community room, laundry room, gym and computer room.

Community leaders believe this shows they have not forgotten about Liberty City. "It’s a great project cause it’ll give folks affordable housing here in this area, desperately needed affordable housing," said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

"This is what this community needed at this special area," said City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado. "I think that this will be an anchor for development of this part of Liberty City."

This is just phase one of the development project. Phase two includes retail space, a multi-level parking garage, and another 100 rental units. Groundbreaking on phase two also took place at the celebration.
