The Dish: Banana Bread

Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 stick of unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups of all purpose flour
2 large eggs
3 ripe bananas
1 tablespoon of milk
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup applesauce
1/2-3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Method of Preparation:
– Preheat the oven to 325 and butter a 9x5x3 loaf pan.

– Cream sugar and butter in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.

– In a small bowl mash the bananas with a fork. Add milk and cinnamon add applesauce and vanilla in another bowl. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add the banana mixture to the creamed mixture and stir until combined. Add dry ingredients mixing until flour disappears.  Add walnuts.

– Pour batter in the prepared pan and bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.  Set aside to cool on cooling rack.  Remove bread from the pan and invert to cooling rack. Slice and enjoy!

To Plate:
Serve warm with fruit, powdered sugar or butter.
