More Record Heat!

The heat wave is still in place, but there's a (temporary) end in sight!

On Sunday, many places racked up record highs during the afternoon. The record heat reached Miami (96) Miami Beach (92) Pompano Beach (95) and Fort Lauderdale (96).

Even more impressive was the fact that Miami's 96 degrees tied the hottest May temperature ever recorded at the airport!

Monday's highs will again peak in the middle 90s. The record, by the way, is 92 (set back in 1994).

A weak cold front is expected to cross south Florida late Monday night and Tuesday morning. Behind it, air conditions will be more pleasant, but you'll still might want the air conditioner going! The humidity will also drop off for a more pleasant period during the middle of the week. Then, the steamy air is expected to make a big return before next weekend. Stay tuned.

As for rain potential, the chances will be slight (around 20% on Monday) before falling back to very slim possibilities the rest of the week. Another weak front is expected next weekend and that could increase rain opportunities. It's rain we could use!

Also, the local weather office issued its rainy season forecast recently. First, a few things you should know. Our rainy season typically starts between May 20th - 27th. We average around 35 to 45 inches during the season, and Lake Okeechobee has a bit more water than last year at this time.

Also, the South Florida Water Management District has loosened watering restrictions. Here is the very latest:

Residents and businesses of Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade, Monroe, St. Lucie and coastal areas of Lee, Martin and Palm Beach counties, including the City of West Palm Beach, are limited to a two-day-per-week landscape irrigation schedule with two "watering windows:"

Odd street addresses may irrigate lawns and landscapes on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. and/or 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.

Even street addresses may irrigate lawns and landscapes on Thursdays and Sundays from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. and/or 4 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.

The SFWMD recommends the efficient use of water, which includes placing a maximum of about three-quarters of an inch to an inch of water once per week on lawns and accomplishing irrigation during the early morning hours when temperatures and wind speed are the lowest to reduce evaporation losses.

Stay tuned to your storm station for the very latest .
