Tropical Storm Watch for South Florida

Posted by Vivian Gonzalez

All eyes are on tropical storm Isaac as it batters both the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Throughout the day on Friday Isaac has had the perfect opportunity to get better organized and gain strength, steadily increasing its wind speed from 40 mph Friday morning to 65 mph Friday Night.

The models are all in agreement that Isaac will continue moving NW as it makes its way towards Cuba on Saturday and the Florida Keys/So Florida sometime on Sunday. A tropical storm watch has been issued for all of Southern Florida.

If it makes landfall in South Florida we can expect any where from 3-6 inches of rain, possible flood watches issued for the weekend as well as the possibility of tornadoes. If the intensity forecast for Isaac is revised upward the watches currently in effect for South Florida may be upgraded to a hurricane watch.

Seasonal Weekend Heat

Our Weekend Warm-up

We were spoiled with a mild start to the week as the air was drier and the highs were below normal. Over the next few days, it will be hot with more humidity as we reach seasonal afternoon heat. The dome of warm air that has not budged will bring the peak heat of the upper 80s with a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the next few days.

Back to Summer-like Heat

Good-bye mild weather:

I hope you've enjoyed our recent mild temps teamed up with drier air. A dome of warm air will push the mercury readings into the ballpark of our 87° average over the next couple of days. A cold front sweeping to the north will add more clouds to the scenery with a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms into next week.
