Pockets of Storms
After getting soaked this morning, we are seeing a break from the showers but it wont last for long. The forecast calls for afternoon scattered storms once the sea breeze develops. Some of these storms could produce some heavy rain and gusty winds. The showers and storms will move slow so flooding could be a concern. There are several features also providing for the added instability in our atmosphere. One is an area of low pressure located in the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico merging into a cold front that is headed east. And the second is our ocean breeze. This breeze will help steer any showers that develop of the Western Atlantic into Miami-Dade and Broward.
In the tropics we are watching Tropical Storm Nadine as it continues to move east- northeast towards the Azores. The forecast cone has this system affecting the Azores as a tropical storm or depression by the end of the week.

A Flood Watch is in effect for the Miami-Dade and Broward Counties until 10pm. An area of low pressure sweeping to the north will keep a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms at the start of the weekend.

Almost 9 inches of rain have been reported in portions of South Florida in the last 12-15 hours. Street flooding of urban areas due to poor drainage and saturated soils with additional rains expected today will make streets impassible. Therefore, the National Weather Service has a flood watch in effect for coastal and metro Broward and Miami-Dade until 10pm.

Therefore, be sure to pack the patience throughout your afternoon to early evening commute because it will be slowed down by the rain.
