Cold Front... without Cold!
Posted by Brent Cameron
We've seen several cold fronts in recent weeks, and another one is on the way! Before you set aside another sweater to wear... realize that this particular cold front isn't going to be able to drag down ANY chilly air. Instead, cooler air will lag well to our north without a noticeable temperature difference for south Florida in the coming days. The next question you may have is whether we'll get any rain showers with this front. Often, fronts "lift" the air and spark at least a few showers, but this particular boundary will be lacking much moisture. Having said that, there should be more moist air offshore... where some showers could drop down.
The life span of this cold front will be a short one. It is expected to diminish by late Thursday or Friday. Behind the boundary, then, we'll have strong high pressure building-in (along with a strengthening breeze). Expect the healthy breeze to last awhile... with stronger gusts as we head into the late-week time frame. Looking ahead, a general windy pattern is projected to hold through the upcoming weekend. As a result, there will be more marine hazards, rip currents and the concern for additional beach erosion. Stay tuned.
